Hello All,
I'm having problems with calculating the total area of a number of pieces of
land.
I have set MI v.6.0 to calculate Distance/Area using 'Cartesian'. When I use
Update column with 'CartesianArea(obj, "sq m)', then use 'Calculate
Statistics', I get a total area of 3,730,049.05 m2.
If I combine all of the areas and double click on the combined area, I get a
total area of 3,718,087.6 m2.
Strangely, If I calculate the area using update column and
'SphericalArea(obj, "sq m)', I get a total of 3,718,087.56.
It seems as if 'double-clicking' on the combined area is using a 'Spherical
Area' calculation even though my MI Map/Options are set to Cartesian.
Which total is correct and can I trust MapInfo to calculate an area?
