Andrew,

We have developed precisely that interface, and several customers
are now enjoying it.

We have put a new icon on the Business Objects ToolBar. A report
is generated in the usual manner. When the icon is pressed the
map appears with the elements in the report mapped over a
background of the user's choice. All the fields in the report are
available for testing or for thematic mapping. You can work within
the map with normal MI Pro functions. You can also select a bunch
of records, and return to Business Objects which will have a filtered
report includingonly the selected records.

In a nutshell: A little knowledge of Business Objects' VBA is
needed. A Visual Basic module generates the map window under
Business Objects and launches MI Pro (or RunTime). The report is
joined to the mapped data by its key field. Various MapBasic
routines are called to fulfill individual MI functions.

We are enhancing this now with additional functionality (multiple
report layers, saving workspaces, printing, layout handling, etc.).

We have also developed a similar interface to Impromptu (by
Cognos). Works the same way.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
