Okay, here's the rant: Paul Jossman (Presumably from MapInfo) was quoted saying "The MDF file format is not publically documented and editing the MDF file is not officially supported at this time." Why? Why is it the case that people buying your software are not allowed to know the DTD to the file format? I just spend 7 hours tracking down a problem that was not in the documentation anywhere. On page 128 in 'MapXtreme Java Edition Developer's Guide' for version 3.0, 2nd paragraph, under the heading "Setting the Zoom Level," it says that "The zoom level is first set when the geoset or map definition file is loaded" and this is total BS. I generated my MDF file from Map Definition Manager that came with MXJ 3.1, and there is nothing in there that sets the default zoom. So I just spend 7 hours debugging my servlet to find out that I need to set a zoom first before I set a center. Uncalled for. Why not make the DTD available to the "registered" users of your product? What do you have to lose here? Better yet, why do you say one thing in your documentation, when you can't back it up, or tell us how to fix it ourselves. I certainly hate wasting time on issues like this. -Justin Akehurst _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com _______________________________________________________________________ List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MapInfo-L" in the message body.
