Robert,
I did a helicopter survey in which our real time position was represented
as a flashing symbol on my MapInfo screen, running on a notebook on my lap.
It took a bit of customised electronics to get a power supply to the
computer out of the helicopter (they don't have 240v power points!) and to
feed the helicopters GPS signal into the computer, but it wasn't too
difficult for the technicians. I used Blue Marble Geographics software to
feed the GPS signal into MI. It was also written to a log. It provided a
great way of relating what we saw out the window to the data we had
collated in MI, groundtruthing desktop data. The software was distributed
free with MI, I'm not sure if it still is.
Not sure why you need a MapX application, the Blue marble software would
seem to meet your need for free.
Incidentally, I did this with Dames & Moore, a company you may know
something of!
Regards.

I have been asked by a pilot to look for a simple, inexpensive application
that can display his location from a GPS feed. The display needs to be
done
over raster maps. I'd imagine there are a number of MapX applications been
developed for this. Any recommendations?
