Back in 1967, I relished the independence of having the multitude of
barriers and restrictions lifted from our creaky IBM 1401 as the Gods From
MIS installed the 360 system. They were far too occupied with the new
technology to waste their time wringing pleas and entertaining genuflection
from peons who actually wanted to process data. That changed with a
vengeance once the new alter was operational.
Then came the modem, the remote terminal and THE PC. The '80's were true
freedom. The early 90's and unbridled inter machine communication were
destroying all barriers to computing freedom.
Now, out of the rubble of the mainframes and smoke of controlling
directives, the MIS Phoenix rises again with its new name....SYSTEM
ADMINISTRATOR!!!
