I just went through almost exactly the same problem with Easy Loader and
Oracle 8.1.6. If the Table button is not operational - I believe you are
not connected to Oracle. (I was actually getting a TNS names error at times,
but at other times not). Check to make sure you have either only ONE Oracle
client - or that there is a copy of TNS names in each client you have. If
all else fails - get a networking person or DBA involved. (In my case they
were able to "ping" Oracle and identify the TNS names problem. The two
versions of Oracle Client are a function of multiple applications and
computers being passed from one employee to another.)
That I am aware of. problems with the database and spatial indexes would not
cause the Table button not to be active. I have not tried to use different
versions of Oracle Client and Oracle, but I would expect there should be
backward compatibility. For my applications Easy Loader worked beautifully
once a connection was established.

We're having some problems using Easyloader 6.5 onto an Oracle 8.16 DB on
Linux, using a 8.17 Client on NT. Easyloader was working until we ran
scripts to enable the spatial indexes and system tables.
When you try to connect to the oracle database using Easyloader 6.5, it
tries (lights on Oracle Server flash), but just does not give the option of
selecting tables to upload. No error messages are displayed. When trying
to connect with ODBC, you get an error - unsupported data source.
An old version of Easyloader 4 let us get further, it actually uploaded the
table but crashed on the spatial index.
What we are trying to confirm is if Easyloader talks directly to the Oracle
Call Interface and if this could be the source of the problem, or if it is
in the Oracle database setup.
Is there any tech docs on details on how easyloader works, what other
programs it relies on for its operation, and what it is using so that we can
try to determine the source of ths problem. It is not working bu does not
give any error messages, so it is hard to work out what is wrong.
We are going to try using scripts from a previous installation on 8.15 that
were successful later.
