Christian,
try the following:
1. Set the appropriate style using the symbol style button.
2. Open the Mapbasic window
3. Type in the folling command and hit return after each line:
Set coordsys window frontwindow()
update YOURTABLE set obj=createpoint(centroidx(obj),centroidy(obj))
YOURTABLE is the name of the table you want to update
The polygon information is replaced by the symbol.
No MapBasic tool required ;-)
