Bill Huber's detailed reply to the effects of topography leads me to
ask: =20

How do they measure the distance on a golf course from tee to green -
especially on a hilly course or a hole which has a 'dog-leg'? The
distance is measured in metres (in this part of the world) but does this
measurement account for terrain; or is it by direct line or by some
other method?
