Steve, I have uploaded an old program of mine to the directionsmag site called qik_orientate.zip. Its not exactly a tool for determining strikes from map objects, but it has been used for such. Basically the tool prompts the user to "select" objects of particular orientation (it was designed to find intersecting faults of particular orientations), it then checks to see if any orientation data exists and adds a temporary column if necessary. polylines have their orientations averaged (by no of segs in the whole object..some strange results for wiggly lines!). I have never tested the accuracy of the prog, we got what we wanted from it..the basic orientation function is culled from an even older freeware program I found on the old mapinfo apps list. its freeware, V5 and the code is supplied (let me know if a V4 version is required..or use Jacques Paris' tool to re-version the code) HTH Russell lawley geoscientist Brit. geol. surv UK ps i can recommend the symbol plotter by northwood geoscience too.. -----Original Message----- From: Steve King [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 30 April 2001 23:36 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: MI-L Extracting Geology Dips from maps G'Day I have some geological maps which have been imported into Mapinfo from a CAD package. The bedding dip and cleavage symbols are comprised of line segments. Has anyone developed a tool that would automatically enter the strike of the symbols in the browser?
