Bill,

There's something to note when using this technique. You must use the
numbers on the number keypad (with NUMLOCK on). The numbers at the top of
the keyboard don't work.

You can also get the codes from the Character Map program which is part of
Windows 95 and up.
Start > Programs > Accessories > Character Map

The Keystrokes are shown in the bottom right hand corner.

Hope this is useful,

Subject: MI-L Neat little trick to add specialised characters to MapInfo

Here is a neat little trick someone showed me today.

You can use superscripts (and other specialised characters) in Browser
Windows when aliasing a column name. You can also enter these on a Layout
Window.

For example, to have a column named Area km, you hold down the ALT key
while typing the number 0178.

Some other ALT-Codes you can try are:

Cubed symbol ALT 0179
Degree symbol ALT 0176
Copyright symbol ALT 0169
Plus minus symbol ALT 0177

There is a whole multitude that I won't type out, but if you have Corel,
look in the back of the manual for the listing.

Regards,

Bill

PS. Note that if you save the results of a query that uses the above
aliasing technique, the next time the table is opened, that column will be
called COLx (where x is the column number). To permanently change it to say
Area km, go to Table > Maintenance > Table Structure and rename the field
(remembering that spaces are not allowed), so your column becomes Area_km
