hello,
ProViewer is locked, as with all apps using MapInfo Runtime, to what it can
and can not do -- WYSIWYG.
The workstations do not need MapInfo, as the PV runtime is installed during
installation.
The best you can do is what I did.
Use Delphi, VB, C--, Jiva, etc to build a user interface allowing the client
to select tables to
display, and things such as setting the global display values and layer
zooming.
Then generate a WOR and launch PV with the wor file as a parameter.
I even built SQL select into the interface and put it into the wor for
selecting only portions of the map.
[ ie, display a brower of one record ]
You can't put PV on a server and run it from there, to my knowledge, so I
set up my client
with PV on each machine with all workstations pointing to a common mapped
drive on the server
where all the files are at. Think they decided on drive P:\Maps so they
save a workspace
the open the wor in notepad and do a search and replace on the local drive
with the
network drive and save the workspace to the server [c:\program
files\mapinfo\ replaced with P:\Maps\].
Each workstation has different icons for the type of wor that is needed.
My client is a tax appraisal office so they have several types of
workspaces.
For Item #3, yes you code that into the Open Table statement in the wor

To ME or not to ME, that is the question.
For some it will be to Whistle

For me it is not to ME, but to NT,

To whom it may concern:
Just a couple of quick questions regarding ProViewer.
1) Is it possible to customize ProViewer in any way? In particular I am
looking to configure it so that when a user clicks on the ProViewer icon a
table of my choice is opened automatically. Therefore, I would want to
disable the startup prompt that prompts the user to select a table or
workspace and replace that with the table/workspace of my choice.
2) Also is it possible to run ProViewer off of a server? Also do the
terminals that will be using ProViewer have to also have MapInfo installed
on them?
3) When you are setting up data on a server to be accessed via ProViewer,
can you set this dataset as read only or write only or read and write
only?
If so how?
