Ton, Andrew & List,
Before I get hundreds of replies I'd point out that I already have a
Sartup.wor in which is the requisite set projection clause.
My point to Andrew was that a simple thing as this should be part of the
core functionality of MI and not left to be put into a startup workspace
which, when you think about it in the corporate environment, which I work
in, do not have many 'power users' but a lot of basic MI users who wouldn't
know what a startup workspace was as they just want to use it not understand
it.
My main point to Andrew was that a lot of users feel they do not get a fair
hearing and that these users are the ones who work for MI's beloved
'corporate customers'. I think Andrew's answer to Tim Warman was a 'cop out'
and I was trying to establish with whom he 'consults' as to the way forward
and, just exactly how he and MI test the efficacy of there existing approach
when many people have been waiting for years for the 'little' things.
I personally think that MI is a brilliant product because of it's ease of
use and it's small learning curve. I train total non-users to geocode in
about half an hour, you try that with ESRI products.
I'm not knocking the product or MI.com but I do wish we could have a little
less of the excuses and a bit more listening. I was also trying to set off
a discussion point and make MI think about it's upgrade strategy. After
all, if you include functionality in a product that users have been asking
for for years, you're tailoring that product to your users requirements and
therefore will make it more attractive to others, possibly rival product
users. Seems simple enough.
