run it thru a loop deleting the end character until the last one is "\"

My machine has HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WinZip\shell\open\command

Also in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MicroSoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Extensions
[I use NT]
is a list of registered extension so you could look for
Key=ZIP
and get the Data=C:\WinZip\winzip32.exe ^.ZIP
Also hear you could to TAR GZ etc.....if you user has file other than ZIP
There is also HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nico Mak Computing\WinZip\Programs
also HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\WinZip\shell\open\command
