Hi David,
I think it's got something to do with these menus being what MapInfo calls
WinSpecific (eg "layout" is only available when you have an active layout).
Alter menu bar remove "Winspecific" gets rid of all the winspecific menus
Alter menu bar add "Winspecific" only seems to add back the menu appropriate
to the currently active window - and it leaves it there permanently
Alter menu bar add "map" adds the map menu, but again, permanently (and at
the end of the menus, not in the "right" place.
And, yes, Alter menu bar remove "map" seems to do nothing at all.
You may have to fudge this using a winfocuschangedhandler procedure, which
checks what sort of window has been made active, and builds the menu bar
appropriately each time.
Talk about clunky! I hope someone else proves me wrong in this.
