Neal,
I have no idea what your "stock data" consists of, but you may be in need
of a bit of reading into coordinate systems. AZ/EL is the "Horizon
Coordinate System," and is one of the systems used for astronomical
observation from Earth. It has zero to do with a map projection. Azimuth
is the clockwise direction from North (of the satellite), and Elevation is
the vertical angle (UP into the sky of the satellite) above your local
horizon.
The standard coordinate system used in astronomy is right ascension,
declination and is transformed into the Local Horizon System by also
knowing your present Latitude, Longitude, and your Sidereal Time (or vice
versa).
Good books to look up the conversion formulae include:
"Spherical Astronomy" by Woollard and Clemence,
"Mathematical Astronomy" by Meeus,
"Explanatory Supplement to the Astronomical Almanac" by HMSO, UK.
If you're trying to get a "ground track" of a satellite(s), methinks you've
another transformation or two to perform before you import to MapInfo.
Good Luck,

Hi everyone,
I am working with some satellite data that is in AZ EL, that is what our
contact with Lockheed says. I assume that is Azimuthel Elevation. I am
trying to get the data into MapInfo for use with our stock data. Well I can
export the files as either a DXF or MIF file. I have tried altering the MIF
file in a Text editor to no avail. I have tried exporting the DXF file and
importing it in Lat/Long. If anyone has a suggestion the help would be
appreciated.
Thanks, NEAL
