Or you could simply use the Insert command to insert blocks into your
drawing. This is under the 'Insert' menu > 'Block', and then in the dialog,
select 'File' and go find your dwg to insert. You'll also need to select the
'Explode' option if you want to edit the data, and set your insertion point
to 0,0.
Alternatively, if you have AutoCAD Map you can attach the dwgs to your
current drawing session and query all or just certain parts of the attached
dwgs into your session.

Try xref at the command prompt or you can find it under insert, xref
manager, select attach, select the .dwg and finish up the insertion point
etc. (you can't edit the xref unless you bind the .dwg from the xref
command. This can get messy since you will have to explode the .dwg, and the
layer naming scheme gets messy also. You may need to combine objects into a
previously named layer, then purge the xref layer.
