Using the Object Clean functionality, you should be able to accomplish this
using separate passes of geographically overlapping areas. For example, if
you were cleaning a table such as USA.tab, you could pick one geographic
area representing the West (e.g., California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada,
Utah, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho) and another region representing
the South Western portion (e.g., Arizonia, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma,
plus repeating (overlapping) the border states California, Nevada, Utah and
Colorado). You need to repeat objects at the boarder of your geographic
region to make sure that you get all objects that may overlap it, or have
gaps between it. You need to be careful how you pick your object sets.
Error on the side of including more overlapping objects than less.
If you only want to remove self-intersections, then you should be able to
pick more random sets of objects - they don't need to geographically
border each other
The number of objects to pick for each set depends on the complexity of the
objects, as well as the virtual memory available on your PC (i.e., shutting
down other applications can help).

Dear members,
I tried to clean a tab file with 500,000 objects in MapInfo 6.5 on Windows
NT 6a, 512 MB RAM. MapInfo stopped responding after a few minutes. I would
like to know how to clean large files for self intersections, overlaps and
gaps.
