Hello to all!

Thank you for the prompt answers I received. But I think I may have
exposed my problem in a bit of a twisted way and was misunderstood by
most. So my problem is not simply the image format, nor the location of
the CustSymb repertory, but really the fact that I can't modify one of
MapInfo's own Custom Symbols (This means that the image format remains
unchanged from the original MapInfo CustomSymbol) Also, I couldn't even
simply rename one of MapInfo's Custom Symbol. This is really unusual,
isn't it?

And of course all of this is working peachy with MapInfo 6.0...

Best regards,

Catherine Lessard

Catherine,

Make sure that your symbol is has 256k color depth or less. If it is set
to 24-bit color (which paintbrush defaults to, for example) then the
symbol will not show. Also, the symbol has to 32x32 pixels or less and
needs to be in the correct directory (the directory location changed in
ver. 6.5!)

Cheers,

Chris

Subject: MI-L Custom Symbols and MapInfo 6.5

Good morning everyone,

I am wondering if anyone might have come up with this problem...
Using MapInfo 6.5 (+patch) on Windows 2000, I tried adding a bitmap to
the MapInfo Custom Symbol folder. I tried different formats of bitmaps,
various name formats. They are of an appropriate size. Then I tried to
modify an actual MapInfo Custom Symbol or to simply rename one of them.
I have reloaded the custom symbols in MapInfo and reloaded MapInfo
itself. Nothing will do.

I noticed that when I modify the folder, MapInfo will display the custom
symbols in their name's alphabetical order until it gets to the new one.
The new one and the rest of them will not be displayed. If my new
symbol's name starts with a z, I'll see all of them but my new symbol.
Also, if I use a new symbol and give it the name of an already existing
MapInfo custom symbol, even the I won't see my new symbol.

I remember doing such things without too many problems before (version
6.0). Anyone has any idea?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Best regards,

Catherine Lessard
