I have a MapInfo table (DBMS, with downloaded data) which is refreshed every few minutes using a Server Refresh command in a MapBasic program, which runs under MapInfo on one PC. The table files reside on an NT server. A number of other PC's use ProViewer to view this table. From time to time, either the viewing PC's or the refreshing PC give error messages to the effect that one of the 5 files which makes up a MapInfo table cannot be accessed, or is locked by another user. Once this happens, neither the viewing PC's nor the refreshing PC can access the table until someone acknowledges the error pop-up on the PC where the error first occurred. This also happens if MapInfo is used rather than ProViewer. I believe this problem to be caused by the fact that a MapInfo table consists of more than one file, and it must be something to do with not locking the complete set of files before attempting to access the table. I have also tried a double-buffering approach where I make a completely new MapInfo table containing the new data and copy the new table files over the existing ones. Similar problems occur. If anybody else has a similar problem or a workaround I would be interested to hear.
