Greetings, I just upgraded one of our Internet servers from MapXtreme 2.00 to 2.5, thus upgrading MapX from 3.51 to 4.5x. And immidiately ran into several serious problems that trashed several running applications temporarily. I just want to share this info, and hear if anyone else had similar experiences.
First of all it seems that MapX 4.5 requires US.gst when being instantiated. I.e. it's compiled into the %#@ thing. Even though you are using another geoset altogether, and even though the default geoset in the Administrator is set to another (World.gst in my case), MapX 4.5 won't instantiate without a valid us.gst, also bringing both the GeosetManager and the Server Administrator with it, as both apps are using set MapX. The work-around solution was to SaveCopyAs world.gst to us.gst. Secondly the "file name"-to-"table name" conversion behaviour is changed, so that file name blanks are no longer replaced by underscores, and underscores are no longer added to the front of the tabel name if the file name starts with a digit. Is this a feature of the new code base, that eventually MI Pro also will be built from ? If so, be forwarned all MapBasic programmers. And thirdly, table names are no longer truncated to 30 characters as in MapX 3.51 but to 32 characters ! Not un-truncated or truncated to e.g. 100 characters ! I haven't found any of the above documented anywhere, although the changed table name behaviour may be somewhere I didn't find. Has anyone else seen this documented ? Are the same problems apparent in the desktop version of MapX ?
