Hi Alex This comparative slownes is true of a number of features in MapX vs. the same in MI Pro, in my experience - searches for example are less speedy and accurate if you use SearchEx (though SQL is fine) vs the Pro/MapBasic equivalent. It maybe reflects the product history as a lightweight viewer which has grown more 'Pro-like' features with time. It is also perhaps a case of you pay for what you get.
This is why people (like me) spend some time continuing with the development of integrated mapping apps - pretty horrible to code but able to do much more than MapX. This overlaps with the discussion on this list about the merits of ProServer (MI Pro) vs MapXtreme (MapX). ProServer was impossible to debug but you could bang something together which was pretty powerful - (I have seen this with my own eyes but couldn't claim expertise). In the latest versions of the integrated mapping documentation in the MB ref it is interesting to see that the old ProServer object model is still exposed. HTH - probably not!
