I used a map of Canada which comes with MapInfo (very small scale) as a basemap and overlaid a line feature in which part of the line is supposed to run along the border of BC and Yukon, I used Equidistant Conic (North America) as the projection. But I noticed the line feature did not match or follow the provincial boundary line very well (line ran south of the border). To make a long story short I ended up importing the MapInfo basemap in ArcView and also the feature line and to my surprise the line and border matched up nicely. I couldn't figure out why it matched up well in ArcView but not in MapInfo , then I noticed that in MapInfo the border line that runs between BC and Yukon only had a two nodes with 630 mi between them and for some reason when I import this map in ArcView several nodes were added to that line which help in displaying that line in the Equidistant Conic projection I was using. Therefore I edited the basemap in MapInfo and added a few more nodes and the lines matched up nicely when projected in the Conic projection in MapInfo. My question is , are nodes always added to polygon or line features when converting from MapInfo to ERSI shape file?
