We use Adobe Acrobat 5.0 to export layouts, using either the PDF Writer or the Acrobat Distiller printers depending on the resolution and file size we are trying to obtain.
When we want to export a map window we use the "Save window as" feature and use the Windows Metafile (wmf), which we then open up in Adobe Illustrator 9 or Corel Draw 10. This process usually gives us a great image, but it is chunky (+200mb for A0 drawing). The other option we sometimes use is, when the latter does not work and MapInfo crashes in the middle of the save, is saving them as a Windows Enhanced Metafile (emf). These are again brought into either of the above mentioned programs. Good luck.
