This is just straight out of my notes file for symbol creation, and is a bit scrappy, but even if you are not a MicroStation user there could be some value for you here. I have found the raster custom symbols to be cumbersome, and much prefer to use true-type fonts. MI Custom Symbols Must be 8bit paletted .bmp files under 128kb in size Can start from MicroStation using Utilities - Image - Save as Windows bmp 16 or 256 colours with wireframe shading. (Not all that good!) Better to start from MicroStation (may need to make line weights 25) and use Universal Translator to .tab. may need to increase lines to 12pt in MapInfo view (see bore_mon.wor in alice_fjh/mapinfo/symbols) Save window to custom size 140x140mm as windows .bmp to mapinfo/professional/custsymb. Open in PhotoPaint and make Image - Paper Size to 130x130mm and Image - Convert To to 8bit paletted with standard vga colour palette to enable background and colour options. Cheers.
