Hello,

Here is the results from the 13780 MapInfo-L files in my OutLookExpress
folder
I believe the registry entry is the real killer with 29 as the default
and
that may
include that each table as at least 4 files [tab, map, id, dat/dbf] and
maybe 5 with *ind* file

Hope this helps.............

Tim (& list),

Yes, you are correct about the MaxFiles documentation.
I ran a few tests by setting up a file similar to one I have for
swapping
between 24 & 8 bit colours ie
MapInfo Maxfiles.reg
REGEDIT4
;
; This setting must be an integer from 10 to 100 inicating
; how many files MI can open simultaneously.
; the default value is 29 :
;

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MapInfo\MapInfo\Common]
"MaxFiles"=dword:00000080

All works OK now.
MapInfo please note your documentation.

Thanks to all who replied (Butian Wang, Markus Lindner, Mark Knudsen,
Marty
DeBenedictis).

| If you get a message about too many open files there are two things
that
you
| can do.
| - Flush any pending changes to tables by saving or closing the tables.
| - Put the statement maxfiles=N in the '[mapinfo]' section of your
win.ini
| file, where N is a number greater than 29.
