Dan,
TM8358.2 is at http://164.214.2.59/GandG/pubs.html and is in a single 2,883Kb Adobe Acrobat Reader format file (.pdf). This is the defining document by the U.S. National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) for the UTM Grid and the Universal Polar Stereographic. All of the formulae, parameters, rules, and definitions are in that single document. If any other document differs from TM8358.2, that other document is wrong by definition. (Even though there are errors in this TM, it is the FINAL word until some U.S. Military geodesist has the courage to correct it). Note that much commercial software including GIS transformation utilities do NOT use this full implementation of the math model. Most commercial stuff just uses what was published by the late John P. Snyder of the USGS for the purpose of medium-scale mapping (1:24,000). If you compare Snyder's algorithm with TM8358.2 you will notice that John truncated some terms that were not necessary for medium-scale USGS mapping. That's why surveyors and geodesists can get into trouble using "GIS" software intended for mapping and not exquisite computational precision. "Accept no substitutes." Prof. Clifford J. I'm not looking for software that can do this, just the algorithm.
