Many thanks to Warren Vick, Ian Hull and David Reid who responded to the =
following question:

How do I reduce the size of JPG files produced when using "File->Save =
window as".=20

Warren:
You are probably reaching the compression limits of JPEG files. You may =
wish
to try PNG files instead - I have often achieved smaller file sizes with
this format (intended to be the replacement for GIF) and the compression =
is
not "lossy", which means you will not see any undesirable image =
artefacts
like JPEG.
(This is the best fitting solution for my purposes)

Ian:
save window map_id as "c:\junkmap.jpeg" type "JPEG" width 1.8 units "cm"
height 1.27 units "cm". Varying the width/height will vary the =
resolution and hence the file size.

David:
Using an external editor, convert the images to paletted with an editor =
that allows you to set the number of colors necessary to
display the images and reduce the number. Compuserv GIF format would =
probably reduce the size significantly and for the reasons
stated above, you would have to convert the image to paletted. You can =
still save the file as a jpeg, jpg, bmp or whatever but with
fewer unneded colors the file will be a lot smaller.

Thanks again,

Laurence Seeff
