You can use a garmin receiver connected (by the moment) to a windows based mobile PC (notebook/laptop) and by the use of Gringo software collect rinex data so as to be able to post process it to get submeter accuracy.
Check this link: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/iessg/gringo/ for more information. We are working for having gringo software available on a Palm OS device. Hopefully this will be ready at the end of the semester. (www.iapyx.com.br) An other option it the use of a Palm Os device connected to gps and use Thinkdb (www.thinkingbytes.com) OS software coupled with get gps plugin (www.pdabytes.com) and you can have a digital field assistant with location capabilities, this will give you around 15 meters accuracy.
