I am suspecting that there are actually two memory leaks in MapInfo/Mapbasic.
The first, the one relating to creating regions, has been around since version 6.0. I keep a copy of version 5.5 to run programs that use this command a lot (eg. creating grids etc.) , and they run without a hitch. I have been waiting for a fix for a version release and two patches, but it still persists. There also seems to be a second one lurking that may have even pre-existed 5.5. As I rarely use the fetch command in large loops because of speed (I prefer to use functions and the update table command), I have not have run across it as much. Recently I had an application that I needed to use fetch a lot as well as creating regions, and was able use 2.5 GB of memory on NT on a program, even on version 5.5. I was blaming the create regions command again, but recent postings on the list suggest it to be the fetch or insert commands. This program did not use insert commands, so I assume it to be related to the fetch command - or another command such as update or selections? They both are major limitations to processing any decent sized files, and really has to be dealt with and the pointy end.
