I found a tool that ought to be able to re-encode a ttf font
from a text font to a symbol font. Unfortunatelly it didn't work in my
case, because it complained some more errors in the font file and
didn't want to process the font any further. Well - I don't know, if
the font is really faulty, or if the program doesn't work properly.

You may try it, but it is a dos command and a little tricky to use
(means, you have to proofread the documentation). It is called
ttf_edit and it is free, but cannot be downloaded directly from the
homepage (www.truetex.com/ttf_edit.htm) so you have to write an email
to the author to obtain it.
