Not always. In most cases (you have to decide) you should respond directly to the person who asked. Then the person who asked the question should provide a summary (with SUM: or SUMMARY: in the subject line) of the best answers. Note the term "summary" which implies "edited" and "selected," not necessarily all answers concatenated with all sig lines and disclaimers included. Please try to put a little effort into a summary. These summaries become the records that future readers will search out from the archives. The SUM: should be a keyword that means "best information" and the subject should be written well with good keywords (so choose wisely when you first write your question.) Really easy questions where you get lots of responses obviously don't need a detailed summary, and if your response to a question is intended to add to the discussion as well, then by all means post that one publicly. As to producing summaries, if you ask a question, be prepared to thank those who help you by writing a summary that will help others in the future. Those who don't bother will find they will stop getting help eventually. This list is really starting to get busy, so I think it's time for people to start thinking about ways to reduce redundant traffic a bit. Of course, it's voluntary, but you get out of a mailing list what you put into it. -- - Bill Thoen ------------------------------------------------------------ GISnet, 1401 Walnut St., Suite C, Boulder, CO 80302 tel: 303-786-9961, fax: 303-443-4856 mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.gisnet.com ------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________________________________ List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MapInfo-L" in the message body.
