Hi Catherine,

I would suggest changing the file associations from the Windows Desktop
(Open any folder, select 'View' -> 'Folder Options...', choose the tab
called 'File Types', then edit the association so that, for example, a .gif
is opened by Paint instead of Internet Explorer).

I'm not sure whether MapInfo has a facility to 'insist' that a particular
file be opened by a particular application (usually it will simply open with
the default program). If it can, this would surely have to be called from a
MapBasic routine.
