I have XP and I am not having that problem with MapInfo. I tested your
problem by brining up a workspace and removed all layers one at a time by
closing the table. I did not experience your problem. Maybe you should
reinstall Mapinfo.

I have a major problem with Windows XP and MapInfo 6.5. If a map window
contains only one layer, and that layer is removed from the map window
(either by File>Close Table, or by changing that layer's table
structure), MapInfo crashes. All unsaved work is lost.
Now that's what I call a bug!
