Well thanks to Warren and Jacques. They pointed out that the new version of
6.5 custsymb exists under a different directory structure for windows
compliance. See the path below for where the new directory is located under
Windows NT sp6a.

C:\WINNT\Profiles\USERSNAME\Application
Data\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\650\CustSymb\

Where USERSNAME is your login name usually on the workstation.

Hello Jeffrey,

Assuming that your BMP's are healthy, I think the problem you have is that
the CUSTSYMB folder has moved in v6.5. This was done for Windows compliance.
The new folder should be under the labyrinth of your Windows\Application
Data folder. It might be easier to search for a known custom symbol like
"ambu1-32.bmp".

I should say that this information is second hand as I did not bother
upgrading to v6.5.

Subject: MI-L MapInfo 6.5 & Custom Symbols

Well here is a baffling one for the creative...

I have created a couple of custom symbols and followed everything to the "T"
on how to make them and they show up wonderfully well in MI 6.0, but when I
try to use them in 6.5, guess what...they are not there. I have tried
reload. I have tried rebooting. I have tried copying the custsymb
directory to where MI 6.5 is installed and now I have run out of ideas! Has
MI 6.5 changed the specs on what bitmaps it likes?

Is there a maximum amount of custom symbols you can have in 6.5?

The bitmaps are as follows:

32x32 ; 8Bit ; 256 colours ; 2kb size ; 150 dpi

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
