Hi dear list ,
We are experiencing a problem with coordenates . We have some military raster maps in ED-50 projection for Portuguese Madeira island (scale 1:25000) . I open with MapInfo and I choose a point in the map , I remove the raster map and I change the coordenates system to WGS-84 . Then I see the northing and easting for this point. If we measure the coordenates for the same point on the terrain , with a GPS (configurated to WGS-84) , it gives a northing a different northing and easting. The mistmatch is 580 meters for the northing and 260 meters for the easting (a big error!!!) . This mismatch doesn't depend on the point of the island . Is almost constant. The same mistmatch with GPS happend if I use a map from another source : Digital Terrain Model in PLANET format , WGS-72 projection , digitazed from 1/50000 paper maps (maps from 1994). This error doesn't happend if I do the same thing for the military raster maps in Portugal continental . It only happends with Madeira maps!!!! Do anybody of you know what can be the problem??? Anybody is playing with the GPS system ????
