John,
I agree that MI (Which I have used since the Yellow Boxed DOS days of the
80's) is incredibly powerful in it's analytical capabilites and ease of use, I truly
believe that it has a lot of room for improvement. Specifically in the cartographic
capabilities. Have you seen the ablilties of ArcGIS 8? While they are extremly slow
and buggy, I love the functionality. Little things like easily being able to create
your own line styles and real control over symbology. I was just hoping to see more
of that in this release.
Thanks,
Kevin M. Wright

Kevin, I have used MapInfo these past 10 years and have found it to be very powerful
because of its analyses approach, how do you define powerful? I think it is more
powerful to finish the job in 5 min than 5 days. I think MapInfo needs to market its
product, more than improve cartographic capabilities.

Subject: MI-L Version 7 BETA
Hi all,
I would like to get a discussion going on the benefits of version 7 over
version 6.5. I am beta testing it and, quite frankly, have yet to see any real reason
to upgrade. I was lead to believe by MI reps that this was a total re-write that
would rival the cartographic capabilities of ArcGIS 8.1.2. I had high hopes for that,
especially since ERSI's tool is powerful but buggy, but I honestly have not seen ANY
changes in the cartographic capabilities. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Kevin
