I have implemented two procedures in the form of functions to convert
between R, G, B and H, S, V color definitions. These functions are Mapbasic
adaptations of DEC procedures going back to the early nineties. These
functions seem to work at least because the output of one used as input in
the other yields the same values as those used as first input.

I have compared their results with the model MI used internally in the Pick
Color requester and I am puzzled. The values are almost identical, at the
most one point apart on no more than one component. BUT and this is big BUT
the values for Hue and Saturation are inverted.

There can be 4 possible causes: 1 - the DEC procedures were wrong, an
explanation I have a tendency to discard given their intensive testing and
use over a long period of time. 2 my translation is faulty and again I
doubt it can ne the cause because it would imply I have done the same
mistake in both functions and I have worked on them independently and they
do not look alike at all. 3 there are some confusion in the terms, or 4
the MI computing model is wrong, maybe because of 3

I would appreciate if you could share with me (---us) any experience in that
area
