Well, since it was billed as "easy" I thought I'd take a stab at this:
If I understand your question, you want to know how to resize the CONTENTS of the legend? If so, you can right click on any of the legend items (not the frame in the layout but rather the legend window itself). Then choose "Properties". From there you can adjust the font sizes. Note that when you adjust the style font size, the "symbol" adjusts accordingly. You can also set these properties ahead of time (when you first create the legend).
