I had similar problems when I installed 6.5.

The patch for 6.5 (on the mapinfo web site)might help you with some of
these problems.

You could always copy the old .thm files into the new directories. I
think that's what I ended up doing.

Our IT department are presently undertaking an upgrade installation of
all
our MapInfo software users from version 6.0 to version 6.5.
I have noted firstly, that the install is done without removing the
previous
version (version 6) the user is left with a choice of using either
MapInfo
v6.0 or v6.5 from the Start/Programs menu. This is where the problem
lies in
that if you try to create a thematic map in v6.5 the options you have in
the
Ranges type menu are limited to a few whereas in version 6.5 there are a
whole lot more. Apparently some of the thematic templates (.thm files)
end
up being stored in the user profile directory. Hence, novice MapInfo
users
struggle understanding why they have so few thematic templates to choose
from in 6.5 as opposed to 6.0.
Why does this happen?
This might just be the tip of the iceberg as I am unsure what else gets
written to the user profile directory.
I do know that one should remove any previous version of the software,
before doing the upgrade, but does the software tell you that anywhere?
Is there a readme file or warning message or is it something that I am
missing?
Previous versions of MapInfo to my knowledge meant just sticking in the
CD
and it will overwrite the previous version....no problems.
