Hello Doug,

Have you considered doing your work in an Illustration package such as
Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia FreeHand?  Controlling the look of your map
output is considerably better with these PostScript illustration packages and
printing your maps is usually better.  With MAPublisher you can quickly import
your Mid/Mif data as georeferenced files (c/w MapInfo attributes).  You might
like to have a look at what is possible and can request a free evaluation CD

Thanks to those who responded to my search for Australian MR sign symbols to use in MI.
 
Two suggestions basically: 
*       Create bitmap symbols and add them to the custom symbols library - can be 
created in MI
*       Create a customised font and use it like any other font - requires a font 
creation program
 
I think Ill opt for the creation of a customised font.
