The area of Bath I was dealing with was 100km2 and not 10km2! However, my rule of thumb is still valid - and again, everything depends on whether you keep full attribution or not. If you download the MasterMap user guide from http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/downloads/mm/osmastermapuserguidev1_1.pdf it contains a lot of useful information about the product, including a section on data management.
