In the "file > save window as" command you can specify a larger size
than the default map. You can go up to 254 cm, which will create a more
detailed map than the one you have on the screen (zoom to all layer
first).

You will need lots of RAM and the 254 may not be enough. If so, you can
try software like SuperPrint, which includes BMP/GIF print drivers if I
remember correctly.

Don't use JPG for this kind of job - it is only good for pictures.
