Hi Mark and list members, I have been involved with the evaluation of MapInfo within the company I work for and have found that SpatialWare to be a good product. An issue that arose within our environment was the interaction between MapInfo Pro and SpatialWare. We chose to impliment our tables as linked tables as to choose the download option doubles the size required for the data, once inside SQL Server, and once in your downloaded tables. With about 15 Gb of tables now, had we not chossen linked tables this figure would have blown out to around 30 Gb.
Having said that, there is a drawback from using linked tables. If you are running mapinfo pro and choose to run a SQL Select statement using the SQL query tool, MapInfo Pro will first download the linked table from SQL to your local temp directory, and then after the download is complete, will run the query on the files in the temp directory. This was not very fesable for us as we have quite a few +1Gb sized tables. I believe that this is also an issue when communicating with oracle spatial 8i and 9. Hope this gives you at least a starting point. We are moving to Spatialware for SQL Server due to a long standing multi-user problem. However, due to the distinct lack of literature on the subject, I am just looking for some general advice, including what is the best format to use, cached or linked tables. We are currently running MapInfo V.7.0, EasyLoader 7.0 and Win 2000.
