hiya,

this has been a slight concern for a little while, and just sparked up again
because of a recent post re: cosmetic layer precision.

i personally haven't gone into great depths of knowledge regarding all the
datums and stuff like that, i just make sure that everything i play with has
WGS84 as it's coordsys. as it is i don't require extreme precision with
anything, normally within 10 metres or so is good enough for now, but with
all of these X/Y coordinates that i'm saving with a number of records, is
there any further data that i should be embedding rather than just float
numbers such as 138.61325 etc.? or is it good enough to just make sure that
all uses of these objects is done in WGS84?

i'm sorry for my ignorance, but i'm really not interested in learning
everything about datums and coordinate systems, i just want to werk with the
data with minimum fuss.

here's an example of how my data may be updated:

i have a point in a table
someone has a look at where it is in mapinfo and decides it not quite in the
right spot
rather than move the point (because i don't like having my tables shared
across apps) they create a new point on the cosmetic layer where it SHOULD
be, select it, then in Access click a button and the currently selected
record's X Y is updated to whatever object is currently selected within
mapinfo.

is this possibly problematic?

ash
