September 5, 2002 Planners Using MapInfo SIG The interest of a significant number of municipal planners in NC has resulted in the creation of a Special Interest Group for Planners using MapInfo as part of the Carolinas' MapInfo Users Group. The first meeting is scheduled for 12:00 - 3:00 PM on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at the Village Hall in Pinehurst, NC. This should be a convenient central location for most of us, probably less than an hour's drive.
The group hopes to create a forum for planners, GIS staff supporting planning organizations, and other interested parties that are currently using (or are interested in using) MapInfo products as part of their professional procedures. Plans include a lunch provided by JCH GeoInfo Solutions. This first program will be largely organizational, but will include technical sessions on MapInfo 7.0 and its new features and the add-on routing and isochrone tool, Routefinder, from Routeware Corp in Denmark. The town of Cary is has recently started using this for fire district planning. Maps and directions to the Village Hall in Pinehurst will be posted at www.jchgis.com. I look forward to a significant turnout. Call me if you have any questions. (800 969-5241) Special thanks to Andrea Correll, Director of Planning for the Village of Pinehurst, for the use of their facilities. I think this can be a very valuable opportunity for all of us to network, compare notes, and share our current procedures with for integrating geographic information into the planning process of our various organizations.
