I've used it quite a bit and it has some great functions but I don't think they are well described or very intuitive. The manual helps but I found a lot of trial and error. And I'd check about what features of VM have been incorporated into new versions of MapInfo. It was my understanding that after MapInfo 5.5 many of the features were included.
