If what you're looking for is cosmetically better looking maps, you are able to apply
several work-arounds / tricks in MIPro to upgrade the appearance.
Primarily you can insert the same layer several times in a mapper, and manipulate the
display properties, possibly combined with zoomed intervals, to generate better
looking visual display. Basically you seperate display of border and fill on two
different layers, turned the unwanted display feature off. You're then free to
manipulate them independently.
However, if you want to make "indented" border lines, you need to make a copy of the
table with polygons. Put the copy over the original layer, "deflate" the polygons in
the copy with a negative buffer distance, and display only the border (no brush). And
turn border display off on the original layer, and you'll appear to have "indented"
border lines.
Lastly, I seem to remember a description made by Bill Thoen about increasing the
cosmetic appearence using e.g. PaintShopPro. But I can't seem to locate it in the
Tools section....
Using a shifted line style won't work, since there's no restriction on the direction
of a polygon border line. It might run either way around the polygon, rendering it
impossible to know which side of the line is "inside" and which is "outside". That
applies for all borders including "holes". Shifting a line sideways will then just as
often be done outwards as inwards.
