Add this line to your mapinfo.prj file.

"ALBERS British Columbia NAD83", 9, 74, 7, -126, 45, 50, 58.5, 1000000, 0

I suggest you learn how to edit the prj file... it is quite useful.  It is
well explained in the MapInfo Reference Guide.
