Greetings All: I've come across some puzzling MapInfo behavior. Using an Adobe
printer driver, I'm "printing" to a file, creating a PostScript file, from MapInfo.
The problem is I can't specify which folder to write the file into, it ends up going
to a "default" location. 2 Different drivers show the same behavior, when utilized
from MapInfo. The same 2 drivers used from MSWord pop up a dialog box that allows you
specify, or browse for, the folder of your choice, before asking for the output
file's name.

The work-around is to type in the complete path with the output file name.

Changing the default location won't help because I'm working on a project that has
over 150 maps. Each map has its' own project folder that is to contain everything
concerning that particular map, including the PS file that is eventually turned into
a PDF. Production of the PS will happen multiple times, until we get it "right"
because of the lack of WYSIWYG (nothing new in working with MapInfo).

It becomes more of a problem, sometimes, when going across different apps, and
especially, when going across different platforms. We're going from MapInfo Workspace
to a PS to a PDF to Quark on a Mac (where several text and graphic elements are
combined with my maps) to another PDF to an out-sourced job-shop that will do the
ultimate final printing.

It's a lot of "screwing around" besides just creating the maps. So, we're looking for
ways to streamline the process, even just a little, like, not having to specify
complete paths to sub-folders buried 5 or 6 levels deep multiple times for each of the
150 maps.

When I asked for help to get maps from MapInfo into Quark a few months ago, no one
offered anything that I could make work. Other people on the list seemed interested,
too. I'll report back sometime later on this "print-to-file problem", and more info
about what we're doing when we have the process worked out better. It looks very
promising.

....TIA ....Bob
