One of MapInfos strengths - though it can trip you up - is the ability to
overlay different coordinate systems in one map window - but obviously you
get maximum accuracy if they're all based on the same system.

Northern Ireland is normally rendered in Irish UTM but it depends on your
data supplier - what you could do is save copies of your open map tables
into the 'right' projection. This saves doing a conversion in Access using
VBA or whatever. No algorithm required though you could write one from
details on the OSI or OSNI websites.

Theres been plenty about this on the list one way or another if you do some
searches on Directions or the similar MapInfo_L view on the www.MapInfo
search page.

Subject: MI-L Convert Irish Coordinates to GB Grid References

I am trying, with varying degrees of success, to create a single map of the
island of Ireland. However, The Republic of Ireland map is based on Irish
Coordinates and Northern Ireland is based on GB Grid references and so I can
create two separate maps but I want a single seamless map of the whole of
the island of Ireland.

I think I can change the Ireland coastal outline map to GB Grid references
in a MIF file and the resultant MI tab will then adjoin the Northern Ireland
map in the same format. But I also have two Access tables with locations -
one has Irish Coordinates and the other GB Grid References.

Is there a tool available that will convert the Irish Coordinates in the
Access table to GB grid references or is there a way of displaying the
Ireland and GB maps with differing coordinate types and their respective
locations as a single seamless map?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks
